Overview

While teaching classes across the modalities (hybrid, online, web-enhanced, etc.) and schedules (evening), faculty may encounter different conditions.

Classes of Hybrid, Online, and Other Modalities

When Is the First Day of the Course?

The first day of the quarter is the same for all classes. Students are responsible for logging in to Canvas and accessing their Canvas courses on the first day of the quarter. After you are finished setting up your Canvas course shell and are ready to share it with your students, remember to publish it. Students typically see their upcoming classes in Canvas about two weeks before the start of the quarter. However, if you don't publish your course, they will not be able to see it regardless of whether they are enrolled. We recommend publishing your Canvas course by the morning of the first day of classes at the latest.

Am I Required to Use Canvas?

You are not required to use Canvas as an instructor at the college, but our students expect it and are very familiar with the system. The majority of them use it daily. If you need to familiarize yourself with Canvas or need help using it, please refer to our Canvas LMS page. Our eLearning team is here to support you.
