Student Conduct and Classroom Management Support
Overview
Teams of experts at Seattle Central College support faculty and students. Instructors should tap into the support system and resources as soon as they notice something unusual.
Communication with Students
In order to protect yourself, faculty should never communicate important information or have at-length conversations with students using the faculty's personal email account or personal cell phone. All communication with students about grades, college policies, student conduct, and dialogue about potential issues should be conducted using the faculty's college email (FirstName.LastName@seattlecolleges.edu), Canvas Links to an external site., WAMAP Links to an external site., or office phone.

Student Conduct
Expectations
It is the responsibility of the student to be aware of the Student Conduct Code Links to an external site. and participate in the Seattle Central environment in a positive and constructive manner. The Student Conduct Code can be found in the Seattle Central Student Handbook Links to an external site. (p.32). The Student Handbook is revised annually and available at the campus bookstore Links to an external site., Student Leadership Links to an external site., division offices, and other locations throughout campus.
Student Conduct Code
Infractions of the Student Conduct Code are subject to intervention, sanctions, or disciplinary action. In case of bias, hate speech, harassment, academic dishonesty, or other disruptions, submit a Student Conduct Report Links to an external site.. If you experience classroom disruptions resulting from misconduct or witness misconduct on college premises, please notify your dean or division counselor and file a Student Conduct Report.

Academic Dishonesty and Plagiarism
The Student Conduct Code Links to an external site. defines academic dishonesty and plagiarism as well as their disciplinary sanctions such a warning, reprimand, disciplinary probation, suspension from activities, suspension of enrollment, and even expulsion.

Reporting Student Conduct Incidents
The first point of contact is the Student Conduct Officer. Links to an external site. For incidents that disrupt your classroom, please notify your dean or division counselor.
Submit a Student Conduct Report Links to an external site. describing the specific violation. The written report should include:
Date, time, and location of incident
Description of incident, observable actions
List of all parties involved in the incident - full legal name, SID, and address, if known
Names and contact information of witnesses, if any
Public Safety’s or Police Department’s involvement, if any

Procedures for Student Conduct Incidents
When a student is accused of misconduct, the student conduct officer will ordinarily:
Notify the student verbally or in writing of the student conduct violation
Schedule a meeting with the student(s) involved
Determine the truth or falsity of the charges
Impose sanctions, if any
Possible outcomes include:
Case may be dismissed if facts do not support accusations
Case may be dismissed after recommended counseling and/or other appropriate action
Student conduct officer may impose sanctions directly
Case may be referred to Student Appeal Committee for appropriate action; student is notified of referral in writing
It is the college's goal to resolve incidents with as few steps as possible. For student behaviors that are disruptive rather than unethical or illegal, the goal is to resolve the incident informally by mutual consent and/or after issuing a verbal warning. More serious infractions are resolved with disciplinary sanctions and/or formal misconduct proceedings.

Grade Appeal Process
Students can initiate an informal process by contacting an instructor about their grade. Alternatively, the student may seek help from a division counselor Links to an external site.. In addition, a student may meet with the appropriate dean. The dean can help negotiate between the student and instructor to resolve differences and find a solution.
