Evaluations
The AFT Seattle and the District are committed to ongoing evaluation to ensure quality teaching and professional conduct of faculty. Refer to Article 6.10 in the AFT-SCCD Agreement regarding specific evaluations for tenured full-time faculty, part-time faculty, priority hire faculty and full-time faculty on tenure review.
Student Evaluations
Student evaluations are administered online, but you may elect to use paper forms for in-person classes. See your Unit Administrator. During the last third of the quarter, the district office will send a notice about ordering online student evaluations. Unless you opt out, your students will receive a link to online evaluations. When ordering evaluations, please remember the following:
- Full-time and Priority Hire Part-time faculty must set one evaluation per year for Unit Administrator review.
- Non Priority Hire Part-time faculty must choose for all evaluations to be viewable by the Unit Administrator.
- You have the ability to customize the questions to get the information you need.
Unfortunately, student participation in online evaluations is low. However, may instructors have found ways to incentivize participation and still keep the process anonymous. Reach out to faculty in your area to see what strategies they employ. Students are sent a link to complete evaluations. They may report the link isn't working for them. If that happens, you can refer them to "My North" from the student page of the NSC Website. From there, they can click on the "Course Evaluations" tile to access student evaluation forms for their classes.
