All About eLearning

eLearning at NSC is a four-person team consisting of an LMS (Learning Management System) Administrator, a Program Coordinator, an Instructional Designer, and an Academic Technologist. We offer students, faculty, and staff support with Canvas, Zoom, and Panopto. Additionally, we can assist faculty and staff with inclusive pedagogies, assessment, course design, Universal Design for Learning, Pressbooks, and basic digital accessibility. As both a school-specific team and members of a larger District-wide team, we are frequent workshop and webinar collaborators.

The North eLearning office is located on the second floor of the NSC Library. While drop-ins are welcome, we also love it when folks reach out to make appointments. Our phone is 206-802-4262, and our email is elearning@seattlecolleges.edu

More About eLearning

North Seattle College offers its students “eLearning” opportunities in a variety of ways. Web-based educational tools can be incorporated into asynchronous online, virtual (via Zoom or similar), hybrid, and on-campus classes. Canvas, our online LMS, provides intuitive, popular features to virtual classrooms such as discussion rooms, assignment drop boxes, class calendars and grade books. Instructional multimedia can be delivered through online video streaming with Panopto lecture-capture technology and the Zoom online-meeting system. Students at North Seattle expect active, personal instructor/student communication to remain an integral aspect of all classes no matter how they are taught.

The faculty, divisions and North’s eLearning have collaborated on NSC's successful and dynamic program of learning opportunities that effectively and efficiently utilize educational technologies in a spectrum of learning environments. Student success rates (completion rates) in North’s online courses closely match those in equivalent on-campus courses (due to faculty preparation and dedication). We are proud of our collaborative successes and look forward to working with you.

Divisions determine when and in what ways eLearning options are integrated into their curricula each quarter. If you plan to utilize educational technologies for off-campus or on-campus classes, be sure to contact North’s eLearning well in advance.

eLearning Resources

eLearning hosts a Canvas login page for all Seattle Colleges students, faculty, and staff. We also offers several resources, such as an eLearning Across the District (LEAD) Professional Development Program, and Canvas resource shells with lots of helpful information you can consult and adapt. Some of the resource shells include:

IT Services and eLearning

IT Services, Library Services, and North's eLearning all work to provide ongoing technical support and electronic resources for students. Students can have computer and Internet access (and assistance) through the IT Services’ open computer labs and the campus Library’s computer facilities. eLearning staff can assist with optional in-person class orientation sessions during the first week of each quarter.
